Parker Insignia

April 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Looking for a replacement stylus?

Most of the PDA’s nowadays does not come with an extra stylus or the stylus is just too small. Gone are the days when the XDA II had a stylus with a perfect length and finish!

My Asus P525 even has an all plastic stylus which is not very pleasant to the eyes.

Anyway, I am posting this thread for all those looking for an alternative. I have been using the Parker Insignia (multi function) for more than a year now and I only have one complain… refills are not available here in Singapore! My refills come from the Philippines! I have a Japanese colleague using the same pen and his refills come from Japan!

As you can see, this pen is 3 in 1 but you cannot replace the pencil option. My pen has a Blue ink a stylus and the pencil, my colleague uses a Blue and red ink plus the pencil.

Here’s the Pencil:

The Blue ink:

And the Stylus:

3 in one pen!

It’s still a Parker

Filipino Food (Chicken Inasal ATBP) in Lau Pa Sat… Mack’s Singapore!!!

April 28, 2008 · 4 Comments

*****Sad to say, Mack’s is now closed*****

So we all know there are three (3) Filipino Food Stalls in Lau Pa Sat (Singapore, near Raffles Place MRT Station), we have Panyeros, Mang Roger and Jolly V. But when I visited the place last Friday (25 April 2008 ) I was actually surprised to see Mack’s Chicken Inasal ATBP. It’s a small stall which is hard to miss.

 Mack's Chicken Inasal ATBP

They not only have Chicken Inasal, they also have Tapsilog (Beef, Fried Rice and Fried Egg) and other “*silog meals”.

Better give them a visit if you are in the area and I suggest that you go there around dinner time.

*****

*silog = si + log

Si = sinangag (fried rice)

Log = itlog (fried egg)

Gadget Review: Jabra A125s Bluetooth Music Adaptor for the iPod

April 1, 2008 · 5 Comments

This is such a small device so a short review will be appropriate.

Pros:

  1. Small
  2. One Button Operation
  3. Will work with any iPod (except the shuffle)
  4. Uses a Motorola charger
  5. Can control your iPod remotely (play, pause, next/previous song)

Cons:

  1. Does not lock to the iPod (I use a rubber band to prevent it from disconnecting)
  2. Charging the adapter will NOT charge the iPod
  3. Battery life is around 5 hours
  4. Charger was NOT included with the package.

This thing is compatible with Motorola Stereo Bluetooth headphones.

Here are some pictures of the actually unit.

Front:

Back:

Side: You will see that it uses the same charger with the newer Motorola phones, but it is 25% thicker than my iPod video (not noticeable from my camera angle)

Gadget Review: Sansui iPod Speakers SGID 1071 XBS

April 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This is the speaker with the ion2 on top.

SGID 1071 XBS

I have been using this for a day and I must say, it’s a very good piece of gadget you can use for your iPod, I cannot say that the price is ok, but the sound quality is good. Holding this item alone has a very good solid feel and the quality of the plastic looks good!

It has the following features:

  1. volume control
  2. IR remote control
  3. bass control
  4. treble control
  5. separate bass speaker (facing the ground)

All I can say is that this is just your basic iPod speakers as you may not want to wear earphones in your room.

The remote control is very small and has a sleep and mute button. The only problem I have with the sleep button is that it does not pause the iPod, your iPod will continue playing but the speakers are off. It actually felt like the mute and sleep buttons were the same. The remote control only has volume, bass and treble controls.

The unit has only one (1) blue LED which blinks when you try to change the volume.

This speaker does not have a separate control for the iPod therefore, next song and play and pause options will be pressed on the iPod’s click wheel. It also has a adapter for the iPod video and Nano only, you will need to stick some kind of a foam if you will use a Nano, the problem is that the foam has an adhesive and you may not use a Video again if the foam is already installed. You can have the adapter removed just in case you have a older iPod but the only thing holding your iPod is it’s connector, might not be a good idea since a gentle tap might destroy your iPod’s connector.

I am going to recommend this item to those looking for good iPod speakers, I know there are others out there in the market which are cheaper and maybe better but this is something you can keep as an option when looking for that additional accessory for you iPod.

Filipino Food in Marina Square: 7,107 Flavours

April 1, 2008 · 1 Comment

This was one of the first posts I have in this blog and I think its just due for an update!

7,107 Flavours restaurant in Marina Square was the first restaurant of its class in Singapore. To all those who searched for a high end Philippine Restaurant in Singapore, you will stop searching once you see this little corner in Marina Square.

That being said, it is far far far above those restaurants you’ll find in Lucky Plaza.

Location is perfect, ambiance is great, partnered with the usual Philippine kindness by the waiters and staff and you got yourself the perfect dining experience outside the Philippines.

Although I have always praised this specific restaurant, I believe that there is always room for improvement.

Here are some things they should focus on:

1. An updated website! Come on people, its 2009!

2. They should offer membership cards to us regular customers, I think a 5% discount wont hurt or maybe a free cake on the member’s birthday!

3. Reservations! I once dined there on a Friday night with my colleagues; I had a reservation for 6. Although I understand that weekends are very busy, the table given to us was just for 4 with 6 seats, I told the staff that it doesn’t take a genius to know that we cannot fit on the table so I asked them to get me a bigger place. They instantly complied with my request however they just connected a table with a different size to our original table for 4. Don’t get me wrong, this did not affect the food, but please understand that this is suppose to be the best Filipino restaurant in Singapore, the smallest detail counts.

Now, for my standardized summary:

Food that is readily prepared is available: No

Day Visited for the first time: Saturday
Time/Meal: Lunch

Day Visited for the second time: Friday
Time/Meal: Dinner

I eat here regularly so just take my word for it, its on the top of my Filipino restaurants list here in Singapore.

Good for Corporate Lunch/Dinners: Yes

Just be sure to make an early reservation.

Good to eat with Foreign Friends: Yes

Please see my answer above.

Recommended for people who will try Philippine Cuisine for the first time: Yes

Having 7,107 Flavours was one of the best things that happened here in Singapore. Now we can invite our colleagues to enjoy Filipino Cuisine in a decent restaurant.

Although there are always room for improvements (as stated above), nothings perfect. At the end of the day, good service, good food and great ambiance are the only things that matter, the acoustic band is definitely a bonus.

Here’s a Map of Marina Square. (I scanned their business card)
